In order to effectively mentor trainees in research methods and support their academic success, we recommend at least one-year fellowship. However, trainees are welcome to join our group as observers in order to learn more about patient oriented research through other mechanisms. These shorter-term research electives do not typically result in scientific publications.
One-year fellowship:
- Publish manuscripts, attend and present research findings at conferences, learn public speaking and negotiation skills
One month research experience elective:
- Learn key research activities, participate in grand rounds, attend PORT & lab meetings, practice public speaking, create research posters, prepare for interviews, edit personal statements
UCSF Diversity Summer Research
American Academy of Dermatology Diversity Mentorship Program:
- The diversity mentorship program offers hands-on exposure to students who are interested in learning more about the specialty of dermatology through a one-on-one mentorship experience with a dermatologist of the student’s choice
- First-through fourth-year medical students who are considered to be underrepresented in medicine may apply
